Some of you may know that I don’t run INPYARG/Goblin Market full time. For 9 hours every week day (many times more), I am an information developer.
You know those little instruction booklets that come with stuff you buy? Yeah, I write those. Before I became an information developer, I thought monkeys wrote those. I became one of those monkeys. The sentence I use the most in my life is really not What The Fuck like everybody thinks, but a more benign Click OK.
I love being an information developer. I love telling people how to get from A to B in the easiest manner. That’s just the kind of person I am; A to B no fuss.
Well I’ve quit my day job. It took me months to make that decision. To be completely honest, I did not actually think about it. Thinking about it entails planning. I did not actually plan. I just slept on it and slept on it and slept on it. I mostly wanted fate to make a decision for me. I had ridiculous thoughts like, ok, maybe I don’t have to do it, they’ll just lay me off and I’ll get a package.
It’s pretty scary to let fate make your decisions for you, because one day fate will tell you to drop dead. Three days after I put in my letter Michael Jackson died. It was a sign to me.
A week from now I will be running INPYARG/Goblin Market full-time. Not because we are making enough to support two adults, a dog, a fighting fish and some houseplants, but I know that for us to get there I can’t be doing this half-assed. Like my friend Lynda says, can really cheong!
Wish us luck. I have a lot of unlearning to do.
