The rich spend a lot of time thinking about maximising their gains. When I get too worried about matters of finance, I will remind myself that had we come with something other than the umbilical cord we could perhaps have taken more with us when we go.

I keep hearing about how the Indonesian quake sites will be mass graves, and then I think about how life begins the same and is never. But I really do not understand how we forget.

We’ll be putting up a series of ‘zoetropes’ in the following days, offering a snapshot of the pieces in Theatre. Exciting (but exhausting) times for Philomel. We are finally taking our jobs very seriously, being that none of us are gainfully employed. Oh, you bet it’s constantly on our minds – what with the F1 and vroom-vrroom going-ons up our island – it’s either you are in that car or you are watching, and replaying it on the phone…

We are not good watchers. I don’t even have a fully-functioning phone.
